In 2003 Kevin and Vanessa Bartlett led a small team of people to Salisbury to plant what is now known as Salisbury City Church. For the last 6/7 years they have seen and experienced God's faithfulness in both growth and raising leaders. They have been very happy here.
In Nov 2009 a prophecy was brought at a Newfrontiers regional celebration in Bournemouth that hinted at new directions. What the speaker and almost everyone else present did not know was that 2 days previously Kevin & Vanessa had been in Madrid. They had been there seeking God as to whether he was calling them to Spain. On the last day of their trip they committed to move to Madrid only if God spoke clearly to them. 2 days later in a celebration in Bournemouth – He did!
Vanessa says, “We are both daunted and genuinely excited at the prospect of planting a church into Madrid. It is a great city with some of the warmest, friendliest people in the world and yet less than 1% of the population are evangelical Christians. There is a huge need but we have a great God and we are looking forward to see what he is going to do.”
As they move they want to take a small team with them who will learn the language and culture. The aim is to plant a church in Madrid that will serve the city, make disciples and raise up leaders.
Kevin says, “Madrid does not need just one church planted, but many. If there is anything worth giving your life for, surely it is in planting churches and sharing the gospel. William Carey once said, “expect great things from God, attempt great things for God” and that is what we intend to do in Madrid. We are looking for people with the same type of commitment who will come and join us on this great adventure.”
